Try to put yourself in the burglar's shoes and think about how you would break into your own home.
Burglars want to avoid making excessive noise and obviously do not want to be seen. If you think it breaking into your property would be easy, now is the time to seriously consider making changes to the security of your home.
Your home through burglar’s eyes:
Most burglars will wander around to look for the easy targets. They will look at homes from the road, any adjoining track, footpath, playing field or other open land before deciding which home to break into.
Burglars will initially look for a home which appears to be empty and has easy access to the back of the building. They will also look for good cover like trees and high bushes.
Burglars prefer homes which have no visible signs of protection such as alarms and lighting. Having chosen the property, the burglar will look around to see if neighbours are watching and may look through windows and letterboxes to see inside.
If the coast is clear they’ll break in. The burglar may only be in your home a few minutes but the distress caused can haunt you for the rest of your life.
